
If they are damaged or missing the shocker will compress further than its rated travel point which will cause damage to the internal valves, oil leaking from top seal, bending of the main shaft or in some cases complete failure of the shocker.
It is very common when Macpherson strut inserts are replaced that the bump stop is left out .
It is advised when replacing shockers to also replace the bump stops this will increase the life of the new shockers.
Running a vehicle without bump stops will greatly reduce the life of a shocker.
